On the last 7 day challenge we spoke motivation.
The thing everyone feels they don’t have when they are struggling.
We covered what it is, where it comes from and broke down a few things that DON’T work..
And maybe a few things that WILL.
One thing I have learnt from previous experience is that there are a few
ways we go wrong
1 – We have no idea of what we actually WANT…
Yeah I know – You’ve heard it before but maybe you haven’t
See most folks are actually going after what they don’t want
I no longer want this, I don’t want to feel like that..
To no longer have____
Doesn’t seem to be a problem does it, until you consider the fact what we focus on grows and so we are still actually focussing on what we don’t want.
Secondly if you are a stop starter usually it’s because you are trying to get away from that thing and use discomfort to motivate you..
Meaning when you move away and the discomfort eases you lose motivation and slide back again.. because you are running away from something not towards something

2 – Layering up more focus on the outcome
Usually when we struggle to get motivated a well meaning coach ups the accountability and focus on the outcomes
Because what we focus on grows right?
Well that has a real nasty habit of highlighting the fact we are miles away from what we want and struggling, so we feel even worse for it and yep less motivated again..
Both of those things tend to be big energy drains. Hence not feeling motivated.. after all who is motivated when our energy is being drained by
Focusing on what we don’t want
Feeling crap we are miles away from our goal
Relying on finding discomfort to feel motivated
And so what are some simple things anyone can do.
1 -Get clear on what you WANT (usually the opposite to what we don’t want)
2 – Get clear on the BENEFITS not the costs (you will notice how aware you are of the sacrifices not the gains)
3 – Focus on the very next small step not the OUTCOME each second of the day
4 – Prioritize your ENERGY daily and top up your physical, mental and emotional pots.
Is there more to it that that? Yeah, of course
But that is the starting step..
Get them in check and you will be surprised at how much better you feel..
