What a week last week was eh?
We had a week of one day catch ups for our Unbreakable Members down here in Malvern
Anyways I always come away with loads of thoughts and ideas..
A topic that seems to come up a lot is social media.
It can be a great place when you feel tip top, a disaster when you feel like you are struggling
And something I have been mulling over for a while is
When does the constant inspirational posts about someone’s journey turn from inspirational to others – To simple fuelling their own ego?
It’s ten a penny on Social right now….
Where does inspiration turn in to self gratification?
Where does that all STOP being inspiring and actually harmful for the people following…
Where does it stop being about the audience and purely about the poster?
Now of course I am the first person to say that celebrating other people’s success is incredibly important.. being happy for others is a must.
And that if its ‘triggering’ us then its an US thing, and we can work on it
100%
But I also know that the pressure of it on social media can crush someone who is struggling..
So if it’s in the effort to help others.. maybe there are other ways to do it
In coaching I came to notice that a constant relentless focus on a goal can very often make it seem further and further away to the individual
That too much pressure on an outcome we want can actually cause people to self destruct
So if someone was struggling a lot – then the outcome wasn’t really focussed on
We make it all about the process
If someone is in a great place and flying
Well now we place a lot more focus on a vision because they have the ability to feel good about it
So I suppose what I am doing here is saying the following
If you find yourself struggling – I have had the most success in our groups with simply focussing a day at a time on simple things
Taking care of the process. Staying in your own lane
Stop getting caught up in the ‘inspiration trap’ and constantly looking outside of you
It very rarely leads to feeling better – Usually it has the opposite effect
Success will not be found in the huge monumental efforts but the small daily practices and habits you adhere to
Find the small simple things you can do each day and focus on that…
Save the dreaming big, massive action and all that until you have got some momentum under your belt
And I can guarantee you will feel better.
And today is a as good a day as any to get started with that
