A while back I was working with a client who was always exhausted..
(We managed to get that sorted to be fair)
The usual stuff you may recognise
Tired but still not sleeping
Waking just as tired as when their head hit the pillow
No motivation or get up and go
Snappy and irritable with everyone
Never wanting to do anything
And basically just forcing themselves through the day
And at this point they were using a lot of state changing techniques
Exercise to generate energy and positivity..
Big goals for excitement and purpose
All stuff that will help
The only trouble is this exhaustion was a sure fire sign of chronic stress
We always think of stress as anger, snappyness etc and just a physical thing
But the real reason for most exhaustion in my experience is mental and
emotional stress
And unfortunately all the constant big goal setting and state shifting stuff does is add more stress on top of stress
And that isn’t helping
What I find most useful is the following
1 – Break the stress responses we have each day
You won’t believe how often you experience stress emotions and responses, when they go unchecked they build up like a dripping tap that ends up
flooding the bathroom
^^^ THIS IS CRUCIAL we must learn to stop our stress responses instead of always trying to deal with the ongoing stress itself
That’s how anxiety, overthinking and chaotic minds are built over time
Creating an open coherent state when we feel these coming is a game changer for stopping them in the moment
2 – Feed your Soul
Don’t wait for the holiday to de-stress start doing small tiny things each day that get you out of your head and in to your heart
Music – Hobbies – Whatever you find you get immersed in is a good thing
The more we do stuff like that – The more energy I find we have
3 – Recovery stuff
People go mad on recovery tech, but in reality some form of stretching, walking, magnesium baths, afternoon naps, meditation, drink water
All that kind of stuff can work wonders
Of course the biggest justification for not doing any of it?
Time – Which is the perfect stress response
The reality is it takes no more time to adjust your stress responses with some effective breathing, listen to some music, walk more etc
Find what you can fit in and do it
But whatever you do
STOP adding stress upon stress and hoping the short lived cocktail of chemicals will see you through
Because when they wear off
That bathroom is flooding
