A long time back I was given some advice about Football..
It was to not get caught up on the mistakes you make in a game…
‘let them go and get on with the next bit’
Because very often I would beat myself up about it and let it bleed into the rest of the game
I couldn’t of listened because 10 years later at 26 I was just applying it to my whole life instead 🙄
How often do you beat yourself up about mistakes, poor decisions etc
that we allow to ruin the rest of our day?
Mad really when you think about it..
But I’ve noticed an even worse pattern people get in to
And that is trying to micromanage and fix every small thing about themselves
Every off emotion is up for analysis
Every thought we don’t like.. mulled over
The pursuit of perfection maybe?
Or just the side effect of the era of information where we have become so self aware its debilitating
If so maybe this will help
I searched through my email inbox to find the log in for an old course I had purchased a few weeks back
While doing so I came across a reply I had sent back to an email 8 years ago
My reply was
‘Thank you – On the back of a hard month I needed to hear this’
And so I thought I best check out what I was on about
The email I replied to simply said this
‘Simon, the struggle will end when you accept you are enough…’
Many think acceptance is the end, or even worse mix it up with tolerance
When the reality is acceptance is always the staring point not the destination..
Usually micro managing every thought and emotion comes through this need for perfection to ‘fix’ everything
Acceptance was the start of the end of that for me
